She stands outside leaning against the van to light up a cigarette. It smells strange. Herby, kind of like a skunk. A scent of dripping gasoline cuts through the herb and coconut like a knife. Night before the campers arrive is the last time for the camp counselors to enjoy some peace and quiet. You all sit around a billowing camp fire. The contrast of fresh pine trees, crisp air, and resinous smoke creates a beautiful night. Someone suggests telling ghost stories. You're not a fan of scary stories after that one night 10 years ago. As one of your fellow counselors begins their tale, you stare into the dancing flames of the fire. Roasting sweet marshmellows creates a delicious aroma. It calms you down. The story builds to its climax. Everyone's on the edge of their seats. Suddenly, a sharp CRACK of a stick breaks behind you; it frightens everyone.
